Palestinian youth injured during IDF activity in the city of Jenin

As part of the IDF effort to combat the terror infrastructure in the
northern West Bank, an IDF force operated today in the eastern section
of the Jenin refugee camp.

An initial inquiry shows that during its activity in the area,
Palestinian gunmen opened fire at the force from several different
locations. The force identified an armed gunmen standing at a distance
of around 130 meters from it, opened fire at him and identified a hit.

The Palestinian was then evacuated by the "Red Crescent". When IDF
forces approached the spot, they found the weapon which the Palestinian
was holding and discovered it to be a plastic gun.

IDF forces in cooperation with the Civil Administration evacuated the
wounded Palestinian to an Israeli hospital for medical treatment.

The initial inquiry reveals that the soldiers operated in accordance
with procedures. The GOC Central Command, Maj. Gen. Yair Neve, has
ordered that following the initial inquiry by the Regional Brigade
commander, further investigations be held by the commander of the Judea
and Samaria Division and by the Command.

The IDF regrets the incident and stresses again the danger in which
Palestinian gunmen and terrorists place the civilian Palestinian
population by operating from within it against Israeli targets.
