Foreign Ministry sends emergency aid to Mexico and the Dominican

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shipped emergency equipment to Mexico
and the Dominican Republic, after tropical storm Noel causes severe damage
in both countries
(Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman)
7 Nov 2007

Tropical storm Noel lashed the Dominican Republic with heavy rains on 28
October, where it caused flooding, mudslides and power failures that
resulted in deaths and extensive damage to property. Two days later the
storm hit Mexico, creating severe damage in the state of Tabasco and leaving
20,000 residents trapped on their rooftops.

The storm caused 60 deaths in the Dominican Republic, and tens of thousands
lost their homes. In the Mexican state of Tabasco, the storm forced over one
million people to flee their homes. Approximately 80% of the total land area
was flooded and extreme damage was caused to crops.

Based on its feelings of friendship and solidarity, and out of a desire to
contribute its share to the international aid extended to the storm's
victims, Israel is contributing emergency equipment valued at $20,000 (Half
to Mexico, the other half to the Dominican Republic).

The equipment will be presented to local representatives by the Israeli
ambassador to each country.
