FM Livni speaks with FM of Georgia, Israel sends humanitarian aid to Georgia
12 Aug 2008
(Communicated by the MFA Spokesperson)

Israel is sending humanitarian aid to Georgia tonight (12 August) as the
first part of a broader aid effort to be implemented soon. The shipment,
which will be flown by the Georgian national airline, consists of two
respirators and seven EKG monitors. The aid is a result of cooperation
between the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Archimedes Global-
Madanes Group.

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni spoke on the
telephone this afternoon (12 August) with Georgia's Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Eka Tkeshelashvili. FM Livni thanked the Georgian government for
its help in locating and evacuating Israeli citizens stranded in the
conflict area. Livni also offered, on behalf of the State of Israel, to
supply humanitarian aid to Georgia.

The Georgian foreign minister thanked Livni for Israel's willingness to help
and briefed her on the latest efforts to bring about a ceasefire.

Following discussions held at the Foreign Ministry last night, FM Livni
decided to send three special flights to Tbilisi today to bring back
Israelis who had been staying in Georgia. Two of the planes were from El Al
and a third one was leased by Israel from a Georgian airline. In addition, a
regular flight of a Georgian airline will arrive in Israel tonight. The
Israeli embassy in Tbilisi is also assisting Israeli citizens who wish to
leave Georgia by land.
