Foreign Ministry Spokesman Yigal Palmor: Israel won't state operation goals

IMRA: Is it accurate to say that the goal of the operation is to get Hamas
to stop shooting? That that is the beginning and the end of the operation?

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Yigal Palmor: I don't think that any Israeli
leader said that today and I don't believe that when Olmert meets the press
soon that he will say that,

IMRA: In Israel's view, if it was clear that Hamas wasn't going to shoot
into Israel would that suffice? We also have the issue of the smuggling. Of
the building of missiles, etc.

Palmor: We haven't made any such declaration.

IMRA: Do you expect that there will be a statement that will say what
Israel is requiring?

Palmor: We are not giving any advantage to the Hamas by making any precise
definition of the operation's goals.
