Crossing and Roadblock Opened for Free Passage near Qalqiliya

Today, Friday, June 5th, 2009, the 422 crossing, located east of Qalqiliya,
was opened for free passage of Palestinian vehicles, easing the movement
from the city into its eastern villages.

Additionally, the Ha'ble roadblock, located south of Qalqiliya was removed
today, now allowing free passage from the city to its southern villages.

These steps were taken as a part of the goodwill measures authorized by the
Israeli government, and following security assessments in the Central
Command.

Two additional roadblocks were removed this week; the Rimonim roadblock,
located east of Ramallah was completely removed, allowing free passage from
the city to the Jordan Valley area. The Bir Zeit roadblock, located north of
Ramallah, was also removed, now allowing quick passage from the city to the
villages to its north. Furthermore, Atzira A-Shamalia, a central checkpoint
located near Nablus, will now operate 24 hours a day, easing movement in the
area.

Goodwill measures taken in the region are authorized following meetings held
between the OC Central Command, Maj. Gen. Gadi Shamni, the Head of the Judea
and Samaria Division, Brig. Gen. Noam Tibon, the Head of the Civil
Administration, Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, and officials in the Palestinian
Security Forces.

These steps were taken to widen the free movement of the Palestinian
population and are in addition to over 140 roadblocks which were removed in
the past year.

The IDF will continue to operate according to the decisions made by the
Israeli government and on the basis of ongoing security assessments, in
order to further ease the daily life of the Palestinian population in Judea
and Samaria while continuously fighting terror and maintaining the safety of
the citizens of the State of Israel.
