Anti-Netanyahu campaign? Haaretz opts for poll avoiding policy questions

Anti-Netanyahu campaign? Haaretz opts for poll avoiding policy questions
Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA 28 March 2010

So your Haaretz newspaper and you want to make your contribution to hurt
Netanyahu's standing.

And you want to run a poll again to help undermine his position.

Problem: If you ask a policy question then those idiot unwashed masses who
don't share the truth of Haaretz will respond with results that will
strengthen rather than weaken Netanyahu - supporting rejection of
Washington's demands for a freeze in Jerusalem, etc.

No problem.

Ask a question instead if respondents are satisfied with his performance.

Here's the trick behind the question: it was asked when the media was full
of reports that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had agreed to accept
Obama's demands that he freeze construction in Jerusalem.

So some respondents who said that they weren't satisfied with Netanyahu
weren't satisfied because they thought he was freezing construction in
Jerusalem..

Here are the results:

Haaretz-Dialog survey of 500 Israelis (including Israeli Arabs) 22 March
2010. Survey error +/- 4.5 percentage points.
Are you satisfied or unsatisfied with the performance of:
Netanyahu: Satisfied 41% Unsatisfied 51% :
Supreme Court Head Beinish: 42%:32%
Barak: 45%:46%
Mossad head Dagan: 52%:8%
Knesset chair Rivlin: 57%:20%
COS Ashkenazi 74%:13%
Peres: 78%:15%
Bank of Israel head Fisher 74%:12%
Shabbak head Diskin: 55%:8%
Livni: 45%:43%
Lieberman: 36%:55%
Steinitz: 36%:41%
Police head Cohen: 28%:27%
Attorney General Weinstein 23%:14%
Published in Haaretz 26 March 2010

By they way, are these the only questions that they asked - or is this a
case that Haaretz opted to follow the byword: "all the news that's fit (for
our agenda) to print".
