Observation: MK Miri Regev takes populist simplistic stand on Schalit issue despite defense background

Observation: MK Miri Regev takes populist simplistic stand on Schalit issue
despite defense background

Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 27 June 2010

Is the Schalit story simply bringing all the opportunistic self promoting
politicians out of the woodwork or is MK Miri Regev really so shallow?

MK Miri Regev (Likud) flaunts her military background (she served as IDF
Spokesperson) and parlayed her background to become a member in the much
treasured Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee this, her first term in the
Knesset.

In fact, this is the profession she lists for herself on the Knesset
website: Spokesperson, Strategic and Media Advisor

Here is what strategic advisor MK Miri Regev suggested in a live interview
broadcast on Israel Radio shortly after 7:00 AM this morning: Israel can
release any and all terrorists in exchange for the release of Schalit. And
Israel has no security problem if the terrorist murderers return to their
homes.

And why can Israel free the top terrorist murderers and allow them to return
to their homes - this when Israeli officials warn that the return of this
group to the area would lead to a restoration of the terror infrastructure
that Israel invested so heavily to decimate? Just this morning Israel Radio
reported that 63% of Hamas terrorists released in the past returned to
terror activities after they were released.

Regev explained that Israel could simply send the terrorist murderers back
to prison after the deal.

Again, Miri Regev is not a teenager offering her pearls of wisdom as she
chomps on chewing gum.

She presents herself as a "strategic advisor".

And she makes her comment despite her background as IDF Spokesperson.

Here is the problem with MK Regev's simple "solution": release of the
terrorists requires pardoning them for the crimes that they are serving time
in prison for.

That's right. These terrorist murderers would have a clean slate.

Israel couldn't detain them without evidence of fresh terror activity.

Strategic Advisor MK Regev conveniently ignores the "strategic time line".

These terrorist murderers are anything but stupid.

It would take a tremendous investment in intelligence resources to come up
with the evidence to put terrorist murderers, aware that they are under
observation, back behind bars. And this, of course, after they have engaged
again in terror activity.

No. It's not that they won't engage in terror. Just that they will be
extremely careful so that Israel won't have the evidence to jail them.

Yes, they might ultimately find their way back to an extended time in prison
. But only after they manage to be responsible for the murder of yet more
Israelis.

Question: Does MK Miri Regev not realize this?

Question: Which is worse? That MK Regev knows this but has decided that the
media exposure that she will enjoy in the coming days as the Likud MK
marching with the Schalit family (she told Israel Radio she plans to
participate part of each day of the march [namely - come for a photo op each
day]) is so valuable for her career that she can put logic on the backburner
or that despite her impressive C.V. she really doesn't understand?
