TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator warned here on Saturday that Iran
would reciprocate any inspection of its cargo ships and planes with similar
moves.

"In case Iranian ships are inspected, the Islamic Republic will also take
similar measures in the Persian Gulf and will reciprocate such actions,"
member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission
Zohreh Elahian told FNA.

Inspection of Iranian cargos is part of the punitive measures cited in a
US-sponsored resolution approved by the UN Security Council on June 9.

The resolution requires inspection of ships or planes headed to or from Iran
if suspected cargo is aboard.

Elahian further recalled a parliament bill on safeguarding the country's
peaceful nuclear achievements, and said the bill urges reciprocal measures
by Iran in the Persian Gulf in case the country's vessels go under
inspection by any foreign state.

She also underlined that the same bill requires retaliatory and reciprocal
moves by the Islamic Republic government in case Iranian flights go under
inspection by other countries.

Iranian officials say that the UN Security Council's latest resolution which
calls for restrictions on the country's shipping industry as well as goods
coming to and leaving Iran is in violation of the international law.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani had also earlier warned that Tehran
will take retaliatory measures in case Iran-bound air and ship cargoes come
under inspection by the West.

"We warn the US and certain adventurist countries that if they are tempted
to inspect Iranian air and ship cargos, we will take tough action against
their ships in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman," Larijani said in June.
