Iran Withdraws Assets from EU Banks News number: 8906061276 16:20 |

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TEHRAN (FNA)- Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Mahmoud Bahmani
announced that the country has already withdrawn assets of Iranian banks
from Europe as part of Tehran's initiative to fight back against the West's
financial restrictions on Iran.

"The Central bank has transferred the (Iranian) banks' assets from Europe.
Currently there is no problem in regards to blocking of assets of the
Iranian banks by the European Union," Mahmoud Bahmani told FNA on Friday.

"We will address the needs of our people during sanctions, since the Central
Bank predicted the situation six months ago," Bahmani added.

After the UN Security Council ratified a sanctions resolution against Iran
on June 9, the United States and the European Union started approving their
own unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic over its nuclear
program, mostly targeting the country's energy and banking sectors.

Tehran has always dismissed West's pressures, and stressed that sanctions
and embargos merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the
path of progress.

Earlier in August, President Ahmadinejad said that the UN Security Council
sanctions and the unilateral boycotts imposed by certain countries against
Iran will harm West's economy since they bar the western companies from
making activities in the Iranian markets.

"They would deprive themselves from Iran's economy," Ahmadinejad said ant
the time.
