RAMALLAH, August 29, 2010 (WAFA - PLO news agency)- President Mahmoud Abbas
said the Palestinian leadership perceived that our endeavors for ending the
Israeli occupation should not be deviated towards a simple divergence with
Israel on the shape of negotiations.

In a speech on Palestine TV to the Palestinian people, Abbas said Sunday
night that negotiations must be altered to a serious action for solving the
final status issues, on the basis of ending the occupation and achieving the
Palestinian independence.

He expressed hope of finding in Israel a partner that would be capable to
take responsible and significant decisions and stances towards ending the
occupation and insuring the genuine security for Palestinian and Israeli
peoples.

"We perceive Israel's and ours need for security, but it should not continue
as a pretext for settlement activities and seizing our rights and lands by
force," Abbas added, revealing that "we informed all concerned parties
including the Americans, before accepting the participation in negotiations,
that Israel will be held responsible for the failure or undermining the
negotiations if it continues settlement activities."
