TEHRAN (FNA)- An Islamic Jihad leader underlined the Palestinian group's
resolve to continue resistance against the Zionist regime, and rejected the
possibility of compromise with Israel on the rights of the oppressed
Palestinians.

"Resistance is the only desirable alternative for the Palestinian people,"
Mohammed al-Hendi told FNA on Wednesday, stressing that Palestinians are
determined to defend their national rights and fight and defuse the plots
hatched to bring them into compromise with the Zionist regime.

Referring to the failure of the so-called peace talks between the Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and acting Palestinian Authority Chief
Mahmoud Abbas, Hendi reiterated that if Abbas really seeks to resolve the
Palestinian issue, he should admit that the so-called peace talks have
reached a dead-lock and he should devise a plan which considers and cares
for the concerns of the Palestinian people.

"We do not understand why continuation of the talks should be stressed and
pursued and why the Palestinian side should give more concessions to the
Zionist regime when the compromise negotiations have faced failure to this
(wide) extent and failed to meet the demands of the Palestinian nation, ,"
he added.

Netanyahu and Abbas held the first round of talks in Washington in
September.

The so-called peace talks froze in December 2008 after Israel launched a
deadly attack on the Gaza Strip, which claimed the lives of 1,400 at the
turn of 2009.

Acting Palestinian Authority (PA) Chief Mahmoud Abbas, who agreed to sit at
the negotiating table with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu without
any preconditions, is facing mounting criticism from Palestinians who accuse
the PA of bending under "US and Israeli pressure."

Palestinians have mostly voiced opposition against the US-sponsored talks
between the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority and Tel Aviv, saying the
negotiations would only embolden the Israeli occupation.
