CARIO, July 31, 2011 (WAFA) - Secretary General of the Palestinian People's
Party, Basam Salhi, Sunday responded to the Israeli threats to cancel the
Oslo accords signed in 1993 if the Palestinian Authority (PA) seeks United
Nations recognition of a Palestinian state next September, saying “Israel
has ended the Oslo accords’ implementation on the ground years ago and is
now looking for an excuse to officially announce it.”

Salhi said, during a meeting with Secretary General of the Arab League,
Nabil al-Arabi, that “PA's main goal is to achieve the Palestinian people’s
rights such as the right to return and self-determination.”

He insisted that the Palestinians are determined to seek the UN recognition
and admission next September, saying 'the Israeli threats don’t scare us.'

He affirmed that gaining full membership in the UN council is not only a
Palestinian battle but an Arab one as well.

Salhi also briefed al-Arabi on the latest political developments regarding
the Palestinian reconciliation, pointing out the importance of the Arab
league’s role in supporting the Palestinian reconciliation and reinforcing
their efforts to overcome the obstacles standing in its way.

He said, “We insisted, during the meeting, on the importance of reinforcing
the Palestinian and Arabic cooperation and coordination to seek UN
recognition next September.”
