The 2013 Jerusalem International Marathon Planned for March 1st

The Jerusalem Municipality announced this week that the 2013 Jerusalem
International Marathon will take place on March 1st, two weeks before the
originally scheduled date of March 15th. The decision to move forward the
date of the 2013 marathon was based on professional recommendations, which
placed the best interests of the runners as the top priority.

In only its second year, the Jerusalem International Marathon is already
regarded as a leading international marathon, alongside the marathons of New
York, Paris, London and Berlin. This year's race, the 2nd Jerusalem
International Marathon, boasts a record-breaking number of participants from
abroad, with representation from over 50 countries. The race will take place
on March 16, 2012 and is on track to becoming the largest international
sporting event in Israel’s history. Roughly 1,000 runners from 50 different
countries have already registered, and organizers expect that by race day,
Jerusalem will receive over 1,300 foreign runners, including more than 600
runners who will run the full route of 42.2 kilometers.

The 1,300 foreign runners will accompany over 10,000 Israelis.

The Jerusalem International Marathon will have five options for runners:
full marathon (42.195 km), half-marathon (21.1 km), 10 km race, short race
(4.2 km), and a community run/walk of 800 meters.

The Jerusalem Marathon is unique for its beauty and challenging terrain. The
race takes runners through the important historical and visually spectacular
sites of the city, including the Old City, the Sultan's Pool, The Mount of
Olives, Mount Zion, the Knesset (Israeli Parliament), the German Colony,
Rehavia, Ammunition Hill, Sacher Park, Mount Scopus, and many more.
