Weekly Commentary: PA honors murderers

The following did not take place and could not have taken place:

February 26, 1994.: in a state ceremony attended by the prime minister and
president of Israel, an IDF honor guard carried the coffin of Doctor Baruch
Goldstein, draped in the flag of Israel, on their shoulders into the plaza
area in front of the Knesset.

Goldstein had been killed by a mob of Muslim worshippers the day before at
the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron after he succeeded in murdering 29 of
them.

After a 21 gun salute, the President laid a wreath in honor of Goldstein and
the IDF honor guard proceeded to march out of the plaza area to an awaiting
open command car that took him to his final resting place.

Again. The above could have never taken place in Israel.

But imagine the worldwide condemnation if such an immoral and disgraceful
ceremony had taken place.

Now consider for a moment the details of some of the Palestinian terrorists
whose bodies were transferred by Israel today to the PA for burial:

+ Suicide bombers Nasim Ja’bari and Ahmed Qawassmeh, who murdered 16 people
on two buses in Beersheba in 2004.

+ Suicide bomber Abdullah Badran, who murdered 4 Tel Aviv’s Stage nightclub
in 2005

+ Suicide bomber Hiba Daraghmeh, who murdered 3 at a mall in Afula in 2003.

+ Suicide bomber Hassan Abu Said, who murdered 5 in at an open-air market in
Hadera in 2005.

+ Labib Azzam, who murdered 5 in Ramat Gan in 1995

These attacks took place during Oslo. Officials in the Palestinian
Authority issued press releases after many of these attacks in which they
said something about being sorry for the loss of civilian lives.

When Israel transferred the bodies they could have been sent directly to
their families for burial.

But that’s not what happened.

Instead, at a PA state ceremony in Ramallah, the Palestinian Presidential
Guard carried the coffins of the “martyrs”, covered with Palestinian flags,
on their shoulders as an honor guard fired a 21-gun salute and PA President
Mahmoud Abbas laid a wreath.

And the world – at least so far – is silent.
