Jerusalem squatters problem for foreigners leaving apartments empty for
months

Makor Rishon correspondents Hur Urial Nezri and Yael Fridson reported in the
20 July edition that foreigners who leave their apartments empty for
extended periods of time are running into difficulties dealing with
squatters.

Attorney Galeb Avrahim explained that under Israeli law, the police will
immediately expel squatters only if property owners file a demand within 30
days of the squatting.

Once squatters have been in a property more than 30 days legal proceedings
that take over half a year are required in order to expel the squatters.
