Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 17 August 2012

Israel Radio Arab Affairs Analyst Eran Zinger Reporting on the 17 August
2012 noon news magazine program that Egypt has deployed anti-aircraft
missiles in Sinai without Israel’s permission

[Translation by IMRA]
Anchor: But now we have to jump to Haifa to our correspondent for Arab
Affair Eran Zinger. Hi Eran

Zinger: Hello to you.

Anchor: We can't ignore what's going on with Egypt. And you come to tell us
of another interesting development in the Sinai.

Zinger: Yes, we saw yesterday reported in headlines in Haaretz that Israel
is concerned about the introduction of the new forces in the Sinai. Among
them tanks and armored troop vehicles.

And what I want to tell is that it isn't just tanks and armored troop
vehicles.

We are talking about missiles: anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles that the
Egyptian Army has introduced to
the Sinai, according to reports, in violation of the peace treaty between
the two states.

It must be said that the situation is very fluid. This is something that is
happening these recent days, that the Egyptian Army is showing
determination it did not show in the
past to battle terror elements. And it does battle them.

But Chanan Naveh, who was who was Yossi Melman's teacher and also my teacher
in the newsroom - Chanan Naveh said at the start of the broadcast that
everyone is watching Iran,
everyone is following what is happening in Iran and what is happening - by
the way not just on the Egyptian front but also in Syria - in both areas
there are very interesting developments.

The introduction of advanced weapons by elements trying to change the
situation.

So if the Egyptian Army is trying now to change the situation in the Sinai
with weapons it is not supposed to put in there then this should concern
Israel.

And if the rebels in Syria start to receive from the Americans Stinger
missiles to hit Syrian Air Force planes then this should also concern us, in
my opinion, no less.

The situation around us is changing and I think that we must open our eyes
in all directions and not just towards one area that you discussed for the
past half an hour (Iran).
