Jeddah, Sept. 11 (Petra) – Jordan reiterated on Thursday its firm stance
against terrorism and affirmed the need to eradicate it from its roots.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh told a joint
US-Arab ministerial meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia that the Middle East is
facing serious challenges to the regional security and stability.

The minister blamed the growing extremism and terrorism by elements who
falsely claim to represent Islam. Further, Judeh affirmed that such
extremism led to the creation of a terrorist organization, namely the
Islamic State, which exploited a political and security vacuum and
sectarianism to take over wide swathes of land in some Arab countries.

Jordan, the foreign minister said, believes that the Islamic State poses a
direct threat to its national security, calling for closer international
efforts to uproot this terrorist organization before it is too late.

"Terrorism is a threat to the region and the whole world," Judeh said.

"The confrontation [with the IS] surpasses the capabilities and borders of
any state," the top official said, while warning that no country is immune
from the expanding terrorist organization. The minister called on all the
concerned countries to join the fight against this terrorist group.

The fight against IS must comprise a comprehensive political plan in Syria
and Iraq, because the lack of such a political plan helped the terrorists to
thrive, the foreign minister said, noting that the formation of the new
Iraqi government was the first step to boost the political situation in
Iraq.
