Observations: Obama has Cuba as place in History – no need for Palestinian State

Observations: Obama has Cuba as place in History – no need for Palestinian
State
Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 20 December 2014

#1. The pressure is off. President Obama won’t just be in the history books
as the “First Black President”. Instead he will be remembered as the
president who restored relations with Cuba

No doubt his paragraph will be illustrated by a photo with a Cuban cigar
like this one

And it’s a much better place in history than some failed Palestinian state
marked by a signing ceremony on the White House Lawn.

The human rights conditions in Cuba and Cuban foreign policy may not change
one iota as a result of the restoration of relations, but the millions of
Americans going on day trips, cruise ship stops and other vacations to Cuba
aren’t going to be any more concerned about these matters than they are
about conditions at any other cheap vacation spot. And they will be able to
visit Cuba – and yes Americans will smoke Cuban cigars - for generations to
come thanks to President Obama.

#2. PM Netanyahu made a mistake calling for snap elections?

Media pundits keep claiming that PM Netanyahu’s move was driven by paranoia.

But let’s look at the situation:

Was he “paranoid” that he claimed that party leaders in his coalition were
planning a putsch? Party leaders in his coalition admit that they were
conspiring to replace Netanyahu by forming an alternative coalition without
going to elections.

Was he “paranoid” thinking that the US was going to conspire with the
Palestinians to turn the screws on Israel in the coming months with
diplomatic activity at the United Nations and elsewhere? As Haaretz
reporter Barak Ravid reports in great detail, the Obama administration was
preparing to launch just such an assault against Israel. A campaign
against the Jewish State now halted because – that’s right – Netanyahu
called snap elections.

So which narrative is correct? That Netanyahu made a mistake calling for
snap elections or that this was a masterful move that prevented a putsch and
took the punch out of Palestinian efforts for the time being?

And take note: Since the postponement of action regarding a Palestinian
state is openly described as a move AGAINST Netanyahu (to lower his
elections prospects) should Netanyahu form the next government he will owe
NOTHING for the postponement.
