Al Qassam website - Hamas Sunday called on the Palestinian Authority (PA) to
withdraw the draft resolution that it intends to present to the UN Security
Council (UNSC) for ending the Israeli occupation, saying the Palestine
Liberation Organization (PLO) must declare failure of the so-called peace
process.
The draft resolution that is going to be presented to the UNSC for voting is
a rejected project for it aims at liquidating the just Palestinian cause and
includes unwarranted concessions on Palestinians’ legitimate rights, a Hamas
statement read.
Hamas said the project reflected the aspirations of a certain party within
the PLO, and that the PA leadership did not consult other national partners
on the draft resolution calling, among other articles, on the UNSC to set a
binding timetable for ending Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and East
Jerusalem.
The group further warned of the repercussions of such a bid on the refugees’
right of return, saying the resolution uses a misleading terminology instead
of a clear wording on the matter.
The Islamic movement reiterated its rejection of an article defining
Jerusalem as the joint-capital of the two states, saying “Jerusalem shall
remain the capital of Palestine only. Jerusalem is just indivisible.”
Hamas said the resolution sets limits for any projected call to restore
Palestinians’ rights and undermines the people’s inalienable freedoms.
The statement said none of the Palestinians’ rights rests on international
resolutions for they have always been historically proved and guaranteed.
“The role of the UN is to restore the rights, never to decide on them,” the
statement proceeded.
Hamas called on the Arab League not to give political backing to the
resolution, and said that instead it has to defend and protect the
Palestinian cause against corrosion and unwarranted concessions.
The Movement urged all national factions and pro-Palestine campaigns,
nationwide and oversees, to reject the resolution and stick up for the
resistance option and defend its gains over the past long years of struggle.
Sometime earlier, Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, said the
decision to present the draft resolution for voting to the UN Security
Council's assembly was finalized after eight points in the paper were
amended and corrected.
He announced that the Arab-backed draft resolution on setting up a date for
ending the Israeli occupation would be presented to the UNSC Monday and that
the council members would vote in favor or against, Tuesday or Wednesday
