PARIS --- Faced with threats to the stability of Lebanon, the Lebanese Armed
Forces must be modernized, equipped and trained to defend the integrity of
this state friend of France.
To this end, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided last year to involve France
in an ambitious program of support to the Lebanese Armed Forces. With $3
billion, the plan funded by Saudi Arabia will help strengthen the Lebanese
army with the delivery of French armament materials: armored vehicles, armed
vessels, combat helicopters, ammunition, and communications equipment.
Training courses will also be introduced by French forces in favor of the
Lebanese army.
Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian welcomes the effective launch of the
program. Following the payment of the first installment, the contract has
just entered its implementation phase. The first deliveries will take place
during the month of April 2015.
