Arab and Gulf security a 'red line' for Egypt: Foreign ministry

Egypt cannot allow harm to Arab national security, especially the Gulf
region’s security, describing it as a red line for Egypt, the foreign
ministry said in a statement Sunday.

“Egypt reiterates its assurance and its commitment to continuing to work and
closely collaborate with its Arab siblings to face standing threats and
dangers,” the foreign ministry said.

The ministry said Egypt follows closely the dangerous conflicts witnessed by
“the Arab Nation” which threaten the Arab state’s survival and national
security.

The statement comes two days after a deadly attack on a mosque in war-torn
Yemen which claimed the lives of 77, according to a health ministry
official.

Egypt hosts the Arab League summit on 28 and 29 March in Sharm El-Sheikh.

A number of Arab countries including Egypt and other Gulf states have been
reportedly discussing the idea of creating a joint military force to deal
with the threat of Islamic State group in countries such as Iraq, Syria and
Libya.
