Weekly Commentary; Obama Triple Play?
Dr. Aaron Lerner 7 April 2015
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's remark that "I trust that the president
is doing what he thinks is good for the United States" sets the bar just a
notch above saying he's sure Obama isn't a Manchurian Candidate.
With that in mind I'd like to share with you my worst case take on Mr. Obama
if Netanyahu is right:
1. Since a sovereign Palestinian state with capital in Jerusalem is in his
view the true key to Israel's security Mr. Obama will exert whatever
pressure he can to coerce Israel to facilitate it.
2. A nuclear free Middle East is also a major Obama vision, with Israel the
key player not willing to sign off (the others can sign and cheat).
So here's the Obama "triple play":
Weak deal with Iran leads to nuclear Iran.
Israel cornered into "nuclear free Middle East" deal as all other options
for dealing with nuclear Iran blocked by America.
Stripped of the deterrence of ("according to foreign sources") nuclear
weapons Israel is brought to its knees and accepts whatever deal the
Palestinians accept.
Crazy?
Off the wall?
There are a bunch of Israeli lefties - including some very senior ex
security officials -who would drool in ecstasy over such a scenario.
I sincerely hope that the above is no more than silly writing rather than a
description of the nightmare President Obama has mapped out for the
remainder of his term.
