TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on
Thursday deplored US President’s recent anti-Iran remarks, saying that
Barack Obama does not consider the realities inside Iran.
In a recent interview with NPR, Obama had claimed that it is possible Iran
starts making different decisions on regional issues and toning down its
anti-Israel rhetoric.
In reply, Afkham described the remarks as worn-out, saying the US president
has ignored the “noble trends and realities in the Iranian society” in the
past four decades.
“Iran’s power and position is not just based on the Iranian-Islamic ancient
culture and civilization, but the Iranian nation’s resistance against
hegemony and threat and (the country’s) principled support for innocent
nations are also among important elements behind it,” she stressed.
She also dismissed Obama’s remarks about Iran’s isolation, adding, “In our
view and that of many free nations in the world, it is the Zionist regime
(of Israel) and its supports that are (now) isolated in the international
community.”
“What needs to be changed is the US policy and governing system and its
approach toward independent nations,” Afkham said, referring to Obama’s call
for a change in Tehran’s policies.
She further slammed US warmongering policies in the Middle East and its
supports for the “criminal” regime of Israel, and urged Americans to seize
the “rare chances available” to revise decades of wrong policies.
