Weekly Commentary: Expose "Clinton Parameters" aka "Herzog-Mazen" For the
Farces They Are

Let's be clear about this:

The viability of permanent arrangements based on the "Clinton Parameters"
now aka "Herzog-Mazen" hinge on a series of best case assumptions.

Best case assumptions regarding the true intentions and goals of the
Palestinians.

Best case assumptions regarding the efficacy of third party supervision,
intervention and guarantees.

Best case assumptions regarding the ability of Israeli gizmos to compensate
for any security related concession.

Best case assumptions regarding the future nature of our immediate
neighbors.

So rejection of "Clinton Parameters" - "Herzog-Mazen" isn't on ideological
grounds. It is cold calculated logic.

And support of "Clinton Parameters" - "Herzog-Mazen"?

How does one term supporting something that hinges on a series of best case
assumptions?

Support on ideological grounds.

But isn't this dead in the water anyway?

Unfortunately, "Clinton Parameters" never has been given a proper burial.

We haven't had seminars, conferences, red team reports, etc. exposing just
how downright reckless "Clinton Parameters" are.

In the eyes of much of the world the Israeli supporters of this idiocy are
the rational ones in contrast to the ideologues rejecting it.

A world that is pushing for an international conference by the end of the
year that could include committee reports endorsing "Clinton Parameters".

And an American president who may yet see fit to support having the "Clinton
Parameters" adopted by the UN Security Council in place of 242.

To be clear: I am not claiming to be certain that a series of cogent
Israeli arguments is going to stop an international conference or a lame
duck president determined to take a parting shot against us.

But I am confident that if the profound defects in the "Clinton Parameters"
are repeatedly exposed and discussed that we as a nation will be
considerably more able to resist whatever diplomatic "tsunami" may come our
way.

And perhaps, just perhaps, when the world sees how deeply seated our
rejection of the "Clinton Parameters" is, all these schemes to promote
this irresponsible program will fail to progress to any form of formal or
semi-formal international recognition.
