Weekly Commentary: Ceasefire with Hezbollah occupying Metula -Tip of the Iceberg

Weekly Commentary: Ceasefire with Hezbollah occupying Metula -Tip of the
Iceberg
Dr. Aaron Lerner 6 December, 2018

Apparently Hezbollah was preparing a reasonably workable operation which
would have made it possible (under certain international conditions - most
out of Israel's control) for them to block off and occupy Metula long
enough for a ceasefire to be declared before Israel liberated it.

Now that's a bargaining chip.

So much for the rusting Israeli "conceptzia" that viewed a Hezbollah
invasion as nothing more than a suicidal flag-planting photo op.

We are acting today against the tunnels.

And while the invasion tunnels from Lebanon into Israel are most certainly
important, Hezbollah's race to upgrade its missiles with guidance kits is
of magnitudes greater importance.

If these coming days Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu manages to exploit
the discovery of the Hezbollah tunnels for the bloodless cessation of the
missile upgrade program now underway in Lebanon that's an historic
achievement.

But that may not happen.

To be clear: upgrading missiles with guidance kits doesn't require huge
facilities with massive staffs.

The kits themselves are small enough and light enough that they can be flown
into Beirut from Teheran.

And while the IDF continues to bomb inside Syria, Lebanon remains off limits
to overt operations such as IAF attacks.

Time is not on our side.

God forbid we end up finding ourselves being pitched the argument that
thousands of Hezbollah guided missile are inconsequential as Hezbollah is
deterred from launching them at the Jewish State.
