The IDF firmly denies Palestinian claims that it targeted a transformer
station in Gaza during the night. The IAF clearly identified every target it
hit in the central Gaza Strip and can confirm that no transformer station
was hit. A misfired Qassam rocket hit an electricity transformer station in
southern Gaza, which may have caused some of the power outages. We are also
aware of reports that an electricity pole was hit in the northern Gaza
Strip, and are checking if the source was IDF artillery fire.
Hamas is a terror organization which regularly plans and carries out attacks
against Israel, including attacks in the past few weeks.
The IDF will continue to act with determination and to employ all means at
its disposal to combat terrorists and their infrastructure, in order to
defend the citizens of Israel, and will continue to make every effort to
return Cpl. Shalit home quickly and safely.
